The challenge
Sukaizen sells sukajan, the embroidered satin souvenir jackets that grew out of the Yokosuka tradition, to buyers around the world. The niche has real search demand around motifs and their meanings (dragons, tigers, koi, cranes, oni) but very little trustworthy content, and a meaningful part of the audience searches in Japanese. The store had to sell, and it also had to become the reference people land on when they research what a motif means.
Architecture
A Next.js storefront with collections, product pages and worldwide tracked shipping, paired with a content layer: an MDX blog in English with reciprocal Japanese translations under a dedicated Japanese section, a sukajan buying guide and a glossary. Product videos are rendered with Remotion in vertical and Pinterest formats straight from product imagery, and indexing is tracked in Google Search Console.
My role and how it shipped
As founder I built and operate the whole thing: the storefront, the keyword research and publishing pipeline, English to Japanese translation pairing with reciprocal links, automated daily publishing, the Remotion video pipeline and Pinterest scheduling. Every blog post, video and pin is generated from the same product and motif data, so one update flows to every channel.
Results
Sukaizen is live at sukaizen.com, shipping worldwide, with a growing bilingual library of motif and buying guides that feeds organic search, Pinterest and short-form video from a single source of truth.
What I learned
In a niche product, content is the moat. Pairing every English guide with a proper Japanese version, instead of machine-translating the storefront, made the store credible to the audience that knows the craft best.
